Worthy Children

 

பெறுமவற்றுள் யாமறிவது இல்லை அறிவறிந்த

மக்கட்பேறு அல்ல பிற.                                          61

Perumavatrul yaamarivathu illai arivarintha

Makkatpēru  alla pira.

அறிவில்சிறந்த மக்கட் பேறன்றி பிறவற்றை

யாம் மதிப்ப தில்லை.

Arivilsirantha makkat pēranri piravatrai

Yaam mathippa thillai.

We will not consider any blessing, except

The children with knowledge.

 

எழுபிறப்பும் தீயவை தீண்டா பழிபிறங்காப்

பண்புடை மக்கட் பெறின்.                                       62

Ezhupirappum theeyavai theendaa pazhipirankaap

Panpudai makkat perin.

ஏழ்பிறப்பிலும் தீவினைத் துன்பங்கள் சேராது

பண்புடைய மக்களைப் பெற்றால்.

Ēzhpirappilum theevinai thunpankal sēraathu

Panpudaiya makkalaip petraal.

No evil sufferings will affect in seven births, if

One had children with characters.

 

தம்பொருள் என்பதம் மக்கள் அவர்பொருள்

தம்தம் வினையான் வரும்.                                   63

Thamporul enpatham makkal avarporul

Thamtham vinaiyaan varum.

தம்பொருள் என்பது தம்மக்கள் அவர்பொருள்

அவர்வினை தரும் பயன்.

Thamporul enpathu thammakkal avarporul

Avarvinai tharum payan.

Children are one’s own wealth, their wealth is

The result of their acts in the past.

 

அமிழ்தினும் ஆற்ற இனிதேதம் மக்கள்

சிறுகை அளாவிய கூழ்.                                           64

Amizhthinum aatra inithētham makkal

Sirukai alaaviya koozh.

அமிழ்தம் என்பதினும் இனிதே தம்மக்கள் 

சிறுகை பிசைந்த கூழ்.

Amizhtham enpathinum inithē thammakkal

Sirukai pisaintha koozh.

The gruel splashed by the tender hands of one’s own 

Children is sweeter than the ambrosia.

 

மக்கள்மெய் தீண்டல் உடற்கின்பம் மற்றவர்

சொற்கேட்டல் இன்பம் செவிக்கு.                        65

Makkalmey theendal udarkinpam matravar

Sorkēttal inpam sevikku.

மக்கள்மெய் தொடுவது உடலுக்கின்பம் அவர்சொல்

கேட்பது செவிக் கின்பம்.

Makkal meythoduvathu udalukkinpam avarsol

Kētpathu sevik kinpam.

Touching the body of children is joy for the body,

Hearing their words, for ears.

 

குழல் இனிது யாழ்இனிது என்பதம் மக்கள்

மழலைச்சொல் கேளா தவர்.                            66

Kuzhalinithu yaazhinithu enpatham makkal

Mazhalaissol kēlaa thavar.

குழல்இனிது யாழ்இனிது என்பார் தம்மக்கள்

மழலைச்சொல் கேளா தவர்.

Kuzhalinithu yaazhinithu enpaar thammakkal

Mazhalaichol kēlaa thavar.

One who had not heard the prattle of his child will say 

That the flute and violine are sweet.

 

தந்தை மகற்காற்றும் நன்றி அவையத்து

முந்தி இருப்பச் செயல்.                                           67

Thanthai makarkaatrum nanri avaiyatthu

Munthi iruppa seyal.          

தந்தை மகற்காற்றும் நன்றி கற்றார்சபையில்

புகழ் விளங்கச் செயல்.

Thanthai makarkatrum nanri katraarrsabaiyil

Pukazh vilanka cheyal.

The duty of a father is to make his son famous

On the stage of the scholors.

 

தம்மின்தம் மக்கள் அறிவுடைமை மாநிலத்து

மன்னுயிர்க் கெல்லாம் இனிது.                            68

Thammintham makkal arivudaimai maanilatthu

Mannuyirk kellaam inithu.

தம்மைவிட தம்மக்கள் அறிவுடைமை தமக்கன்றி

மண்ணுயிர்க் கெல்லாம் இனிது.

Thaamaivida thammakkal arivudaimai thamakkanri

Mannuyirk kellaam inithu.

The intelligence of children than their own is

Sweet for the parents and the society.

 

ஈன்ற பொழுதின் பெரிதுவக்கும் தன்மகனைச்

சான்றோன் எனக்கேட்ட தாய்.                              69

Eenra pozhuthin perithuvakkum thanmakanai

Saanrōn enakkētta thaay.

பெற்ற பொழுதைவிட பெரிதும்மகிழ்வாள் தன்மகனைச்

சான்றோன் எனக்கேட்ட தாய்.

Petra pozhuthaivida perithummakizhvaal thanmakanai

Saanrōn enakkētta thaay.

Hearing the words of praising her son as great, the mother

Rejoices more than when she delivered him.

 

மகன்தந்தைக்கு ஆற்றும் உதவி இவன்தந்தை

என்நோற்றான் கொல்எனும் சொல்.                    70

Makanthantaikku  aatrum uthavi ivanthanthai

Ennōtraan kol-enum sol.

மகன் தந்தைக்காற்றும் உதவி இவன்தந்தை

என்று புகழப்படும் சொல்.

Makan thanthaikkaatrum uthavi ivanthanthai

Enru pukazhappadum sol.

The duty of a son is to make his father to 

Be praised as ‘he is his father’.
